Side by Side for the Black Sea! • - It is a pilot-project for youth NGOs capacity-building; • Financing source - EC Youth in Action program. • The Aim of the Project • “Side by Side for the Black Sea!” aims at improving the capacity of youthnon-governmental organizations from the Black Sea region to develop and implement grass-root projects for preventing water pollution.

The Project’s Importance • Black Sea–highly polluted waterbody • High level of eutrophication/ nutrient enrichment; • Decline of the commercial marine living resources; • Biodiversity /habitat changes; • Decline of the recreational values of the sea. • (Strategic Action Plan of the Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution) • Cross-border Cooperation between countries which share seas, rivers, lakes and ground waters – is essential for successful water management. • (Water Convention of the UN Economic Commission for Europe) • Civil society’s support is significant for a sustainable implementation of the governmental strategies and conventions. djfksdhf.

The Project’s Importance • By its content, “Side by Side for the Black Sea” contributes to the fulfillment of the Water Convention Parties’ obligations: • To prevent, control and reduce adverse trans-boundary impacts on the environment, human health and socio-economic condition; • To manage shared waters in a reasonable and equitable manner using the ecosystem approach and guided by the precautionary and the polluter-pays principles; • To preserve and restore ecosystems; • To carry out environmental impact assessments, to draw up contingency plans, set water-quality objectives and minimize the risk of accidental water pollution. djfksdhf.

Project Objectives • Facilitating the exchange of experience and good practice concerning preventiveactivities for water pollution between the participants during 6 months. • Acknowledge the situation, threats and causes of the current water quality in the Black Sea forthe participants during 8 days of training. djfksdhf. Project duration : 01.07.2011- 31.12.2011 Training duration : 05.09. 2011- 14.09.2011

  7. Project’s target group • 27 youngstersrepresenting9 youth non- governmentalorganizations from Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine,Republic of Moldova, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Russian Federation djfksdhf.

Training methodology djfksdhf. • non-formal educational methods • It will facilitate an interactive process of learning, focused on the participants, and involves : • group discussions and brainstorming; • storyboards and case studies; • sharing best practices sessions; • development of project ideas; • ice-breakers and energizers.

  9. Training topics djfksdhf. • Discover the Water Cycle in Nature • Discover the Bond between Water and Health • Discover the bond between Water and Economy • Water and International affairs. How? Why? • Water pollution preventive methods

Estimated outcomes of the project • 27 youngsters from the Black Sea region having updated knowledge and skills for organizing preventiveactivities on water pollution; • 9 NGOs with improved capacity in developing and implementing grass-root projects for preventing water pollution; • A better and more efficient cooperation between 9 NGOs representing 9 countries from the Black Sea region; • 9 additionally initiated projects during the training; • In within 2 months after the training, we expect the participants to design and to start implementing better quality and more efficient projects initiated within the training course; • Increased awareness and more responsible behaviour concerning water pollution issues among the local communities of participant NGOs. djfksdhf.

Project Participant’s profile djfksdhf. • - Interested in water related problems; • - Representing an NGO that has experience in environmental projects; • Has already been involved in at least one environmental project; • Aged: 20-30 • - Advanced skills in English communication; • - Tolerant person towards cultural diversity. • There will be 3 participants representing one NGO from every participating country.
