  1. HOWDY!

  2. And thank you for your interest in becoming an Aggie Student Athletic Trainer! The following information should help you with your application process to both The University as well as to our program: • You must apply and be accepted into Texas A&M as a full-time student or be a part of the Blinn Team option. It’s recommended you apply for early admission. Contact the Admissions Office at 979.845.1004 to request an application and to find out the deadline. We HIGHLY recommend that you contact the Admissions office before you send in your application so that you can set up a date to meet with a representative in your area to help you fill out your TAMU application. Many students are not considered because they do not fill out their TAMU application properly!!!!! • You must apply and be accepted into the Aggie Student Athletic Trainer program. Go to www.aggieathletics.com and click on Athletic Training link. Fill out the application sheet and all of the required components and submit it to Jay Martin. You will be contacted as to whether or not you will be invited in for a recruitment weekend during the fall semester only and/or for a formal interview.

  4. Helpful Hints!(pay attention!!! These hints could be the difference between you or someone else getting into The University and our program!) • When writing your resume, ELABORATE! Remember, you’re trying to sell yourself and get the edge over someone else. List each experience and the date. For example, if you worked high school football for 4 years---don’t write that! Write that you worked 2 years of JV football and 2 years Varsity football or whatever the case may have been with you. • Include any certifications you may have • Include any volunteer work you may have done • Include any extracurricular work you may have done • Include any workshops you may have attended and the dates

  5. Helpful Hints, continued… • Document each contact with a university representative. Make sure the university representative you meet with documents the contact as well so they can corroborate your information. Examples of contacts include: • Any on-site visits • Any on-site meetings • Any on-site interviews • Any meetings with a TAMU representative at a student athletic trainer workshop • This does NOT include visiting the TAMU web site or any of its links

  6. Helpful Hints, continued… • Your letters of recommendation should be from 3 different “types” of people. Try and get a letter from a former employer, a school administrator, a staff athletic trainer, or possibly someone from your church. Be sure to ask if these people will be able to write a positive letter of recommendation and if they would be specific as to why they would recommend you. You may use the same letters of recommendation when applying to TAMU and our program however you must send copies of all 3 letters to both! We will not forward your letters and neither will the Admissions Office.

  7. Helpful Hints, continued… • Complete your applications EARLY! • Make follow-up phone calls • Update any demographic changes (such as phone or address changes) with The University as well as with us • Be sure to complete the check-off list (attached separately from this power point presentation) and send it in with your application (this check-off list does NOT go with your TAMU application)

  8. Additional Information • If you are applying to the student athletic trainer program and would be able to begin working for us during the Fall semester your application deadline is March 15th. • If you are applying to the student athletic trainer program and would be able to begin working for us during the Spring semester your application deadline is November 15th.
