  2. Location • Laos is located in southeast Asia bordering on Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia • population: about 23 million

  3. Government • Laos is a communist state. Laos was a monarchy, dominated by a small number of powerful families in 1975. It was transformed into a communist oligarchy but its social makeup remained much the same

  4. Popular foods • One of Laos favorite foods are frogs (frogs Lao style) • Sticky rice- it’s the foundation of all Lao meals and most Lao prefer the glutinous sticky rice • Laab- it is served cold and is usually accompanied by sticky rice.

  5. Holidays • Songkarn- is the most important holiday in Lao. It is Laos new year celebrated from April 13-15 • The rocket- rocket festival is a popular traditional Lao holiday although it is not a official holiday it is celebrated on wisakah bucha celebrating birth and death. • Independence day- on July 19 celebrates the granting of autonomy or independence from the French union.

  6. Popular Sports • The most popular sports in Lao are soccer volleyball, takraw. Lao has never entered the world cup or the Asian cup and Asian games as an international side.One of the famous sports players are Souksadaond Liapvisay and Ketsada Souksavanh.

  7. Religion • The Lao believe they body contains thirty-one spirits and illness can result it the spirit leaves the body. The Buddhism eliminated the Lao’s religion. This religion is called Theravada.

  8. Exports • What Laos sells to make money are hydroelectricity, timber and wood products. In addition much smaller quantities of coffee gypsum and tin concentrates are exported.
