In 2008, she was a part of the Obama campaign's social media team, at its headquarters in Chicago. Recently, Harfoush was announced as the Associate Director of the Global Cooperation Initiative at the World Economic Forum, a post that began in March 2009. A new media specialist, she has worked with InnoSpa-Unilever, British Telecom Wholesale, and The Web Foundation, among others, and is actively involved in organizations such as The Overlap, which combines cross-disciplinary expertise to tackle the challenges of sustainable innovation. She was the research coordinator for the international bestseller Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything, and is a contributor to Grown Up Digital: How the Net Generation is Changing Your World. Her book, Yes We Did: An Inside Look at How Social Media Built the Obama Brand, will be released in May 2009.

DIGITAL MARKETINGThe Changing World of Targeted CommunicationTuesday, May 12, 2009 • THE SPEAKERS • Fang Wan is a professor at the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba where she teaches International Marketing, Brand Management, Consumer Behavior and Cross-cultural Brand Management (MBA level and Ph.D level). Her research deals with core branding issues, cross-cultural consumer research and advertising and persuasion research. Professor Wan has published more than 25 articles in books, journals and conference proceedings including Contemporary Research in eBranding, Handbook of Research on Digital Media and Advertising, Journal of Brand Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics, American Behavioral Scientist, Advances in Consumer Research and European Advances in Consumer Research, Journal of Interactive Advertising, Journal of Marketing Channels and Journal of Interactive Marketing. Wan’s research on brand capabilities of Multinational Corporations and local firms in China has recently been funded by Social Science and Humanities Research Council in Canada (SSHRC).

Since joining iC Group, he has cemented partnerships with top promotions agencies and leading edge brand name clients in the Eastern Seaboard region of the US. His focus is to share his expertise on creating impact and reducing risk with promotional efforts. Mark Thompson is nostranger to Mobile product and service launches. With a wealth of experience in strategy creation, execution, market forecasting and partner collaboration, he leads the Mobile team at Pelmorex Media Inc. (The Weather Network / MétéoMédia). His reputation for integrating business goals, brand building and ground-breaking tactics, has been instrumental in guiding the development and strategy for all Mobile products and services for The Weather Network and MétéoMédia. Prior to joining Pelmorex, Thompson served as Director, Wireless Operations for Amp’d Mobile in Los Angeles, and most recently as Director, Marketing for Amp’d Mobile’s launch into the Canadian Marketplace.  Thompson also spent six years with Bell Canada; working at Bell Mobility in acquisitions, youth marketing and wireless data.  His proven track record for launching industry firsts made him the perfect candidate to move to the Sympatico division of Bell and help launch the Sympatico MSN co-branded software and portal.

Drawing on first-hand experience as a social media expert and co-founder of The Gathering Think Tank, an innovation forum that connects technology, media, entertainment, and business communities, Powell writes about the patterns and practices of successful business leaders who bank on social networking to win. Powell’s background includes a decade of experience in broadcast television as well as in interactive/new media content and formats. With her deep knowledge of the people and technologies at the forefront of social media, Powell has gained a solid reputation for discovering the latest developments and distilling their social and business implications. Most recently, Powell was commissioned to create Canada’s first cross-platform interactive show designed for TV, Internet, radio, and mobile applications.
