  3. Content Broad ReadingComprehension Goal Objectives: -To improve reading comprehension across the curriculum with pre-reading strategies -To Improve vocabulary across the curriculum with pre-reading strategies

  4. Baseline Data -Test all Freshmen with Gates-MacGinitie Test in reading comprehension and vocabulary -Use the data to drive instruction

  5. Program -Send a letter to parents letting them know where the child stands in these two areas -Create school wide pre-reading strategies to help increase their child’s reading comprehension and vocabulary -Post-test in February the Freshman to gather data for the growth in these two areas -Send a second letter home to the parents explaining the growth their child has made.

  6. P Pre-reading strategy plan -All teachers will use one of the pre-reading strategies that were identified by our reading team before assigning a reading selection in their class -Building wide participation for all content areas -Monitored by administration and staff

  7. Pre-Reading Strategies The strategies we will use are: • Schematic Activation (Think Alouds) • Previewing the Text • Guided Reading • Text to World • Vocabulary Instruction Strategies • Brainstorming • Review Text Structure

  8. Goals/Results -Raise reading comprehension level and vocabulary for all students in all subject areas -Raise academic achievement and scores on state assessments
