  3. What is the value of the 3 in 435,089? Brad likes to climb trees. On Monday he climbed 6 more trees than on Tuesday. On Tuesday he climbed 5 trees. On Wednesday he climbed 7 fewer trees than on Monday. How many trees did he climb on Wednesday?

  4. 10. The oil drillers drilled 18 meters in the first well but did not find oil. They drilled 6 more meters and found oil. To reach oil in the second well they had to drill twice as deep. How far did they drill the second well?

  6. Vocabulary • dividend - the number you are dividing • divisor- the number you are dividing by • quotient - the evenly divided result • remainder - what is left over that cannot be evenly divided • divisable- can be divided by evenly

  7. 136 is the dividend 27 is the quotient 5 is the divisor 1 is the remainder When we write the problem like this:136 ÷5 = 27 r 1

  8. 1 is the remainder r 1 27 5, the divisor, moves to here 27, the quotient,stays here 5 136 136, the dividend, moves here When writing it like this:

  9. Multiplication and Division are opposites: See the Family of Facts: 4 x 3 = 12 3 x 4 = 12 12 ÷ 4 = 3 12 ÷ 3 = 4

  10. Fact Family for 8, 2,16: 2 x 8 = 16 8 x 2 = 16 16 ÷ 2 = 8 16 ÷ 8 = 2
