  1. Introduction to Lab Ex. Photosynthetic Microbes

  2. Introduction to Lab 3: Ex. Photosynthetic Microbes Microbes that are capable of photosynthesis Found in 2 groups: Protista –Algae; Monera - Cyanobacteria Organisms will be studied using stained slides and wet mounts. Specific organisms to be studied in the lab: Algae: Spirogyra Hydrodictyon Cyanobacteria: Oscillatoria

  3. Spirogyra: (stained slide) Characteristic features: filamentous with spiral chloroplast, sexual reproduction (through conjugation)

  4. Hydrodictyon (water net) (stained slide) Characteristic features: colonial form with individual cells arranged in benzene ring patterns)

  5. Oscillatoria (wet mount) Characteristic feature: filamentous form with oscillating tips; (shows gliding/creeping motility) prokaryotic.
