Objectives and Description of T/S Meta Dataset Collection for European Seas

The ECOOP annual meeting held on February 13-14, 2008, aimed to collect meta and historical data for temperature and salinity measurements from five European regional seas. Over a three-year period, regional partners worked to establish a common format for metadata collection, utilizing existing standards from SEADATANET and various regional databases. The collected dataset provides vital observational data, including geographical coordinates, observation dates, measurement frequency, and types of observational instruments employed. This collaboration enhances the understanding of climate and oceanographic changes in European waters.

Objectives & Description. • Objectives: Collect meta data and historical data for temperature and salinity measurements. • Description: Meta data and historical data of temperature and salinity observational networks in 5 European regional seas will be collected for a given 3 year period by the 5 regional partners. • 2. Formats. • First activity was design a common format for the metadata set of the five regional partners covering all the necessary information. • Following formats as the SEADATANET and others used in the different regions a common format, which included repeated and non repeated stations, was established as follows: • Format: • Latitude, longitude, observation_date, frequency, repeated (1/0), depth, temperature(1/0), salinity(1/0), type (ctd, VOS, XBT, moored_buoy, ARGO float, glider, ), uselimite (LI, NLI), ref_1 (data reference), ref_2 (file reference), provider_mail.
