Backgroud • Not only must the designer determine what is to be taught, but also the characteristics of the learners, the contexts in which the instruction will be delivered, and the contexts in which the skills will eventually be used. We refer to these types of analyses as learner analysis and context analysis.

  3. Concepts • Learner analysis • Entry behaviors, prior knowledge of the topic area, attitudes, educational and ability levels, general learning preferences, attitudes toward the organization, group characteristics

  6. Summary • The first task is to identify the general characteristics that members of the target population bring to the instruction. The second task is to describe the performance context, or environment, where learners will assume their natural roles as students, employees, citizens, or clients.

  7. Practice & Feedback • Perform a learning context analysis for the instructional goal “open and maitain a checking account”.
