To give a clinician’s pespective on the dm+d: • What it is & when & how you will get it • Confirm widespread professional support • Explain why a fundamental building block • Outline some clinical transactions that will rely on dm+d for accuracy & safety • Show importance for stock control

  4. Drug dictionaries....and a common drug dictionary • Data Interchange Standards Programme 1992-95 • Clinical systems need drug dictionaries • Communicating clinical systems need a common drug dictionary

  5. Some clinical transactions that will be enhanced by dm+d: • Admission to hospital • Acquisition of prescription info - from barcode or message • Discharge from hospital • Review of medication • Stop, swap, start, cancel, change dose ...with dm+d - confidence in correct ID
