  6. When you enter the classroom it is time to get focused and ready for class – it is NOT social time. • Remove hats/phones. There is NO FOOD in this room. • Pick up any papers from the Student Center Table. • Quietly find your seat. • Get our your binder, a writing utensil, and any homework that is due. • Put ALL other materials/objects away. • Get out your Daily Work Organizer and QUIETLY: • Write in the date • Copy down the objective from the board • Complete the Warm-Up Procedure for Entering the Classroom

  7. You will have 10 minutes to fill out the survey. Please write neatly. This is a way for me to get to know you and how you work best. Work quietly and if you finish early, begin reading over the Syllabus. Class Leader Student Surveys

How to pass something in… • Pass your item to the person in front of you (do NOT do anything until I say go) • Do not pass anything until you have received the item from the person behind you (unless you are in the back row) • Place your piece of paper directly on top of the papers and continue to pass it • Once all of the papers from the row are passed over, I will collect the stack of papers from each person in the front row

Guidelines • No talking while others are talking. • This includes me OR any of your classmates • Stay in your seat unless granted permission. • Do NOT leave my classroom until I dismiss you. -The bell does not dismiss you, I do • No food or drink (except for H2O) • No hats or electronics. • This includes snapbacks, holiday hats, cell phones, iPods, boys, girls etc. What happens in other classrooms is of no concern to me. These are the guidelines in this room. Furthermore, I expect you to hold me accountable to these as well.

  24. Homework • It will be assigned on a regular basis • LATE HOMEWORK IS NOT ACCEPTED.

Class Attendance/Make-Up Work • It is CRUCIAL that you come to class EVERY DAY! • If you miss more than 10 days you will FAIL the class unless you make up time and missed assignments. • YOU are responsible for getting missed work/assignments. • It must be turned in within 5 school days of absence.

  26. Tardy Policy & Tutoring • After 3 tardies, you will receive a referral • Tutoring will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30PM or by appointment

  27. RESTROOM PASSES • You will get 3 restroom passes for the whole semester. • You can not go the first 20 minutes or the last 20 minutes of class.

  28. You can earn back half credit for every point that you missed. • You have one week after the assignment is returned to re-do it. Retakes & Rewrites

  30. Balloon Questions • Describe what you saw happen. Be specific about what materials (balloons, match, ruler, etc.) were involved. Write at least two sentences. • Why do you think the balloon exploded? • What do you think is inside the balloon?

  32. What I think • Chemistry explains and breaks down the physical world. • Chemistry teaches us to see differently. • Chemistry makes us superior problem solvers. • Chemistry forces us to become hard workers.

Why does Obama think Chemistry is important? “We need to teach our kids that it’s not just the winner of the Super Bowl that deserves to be celebrated, but the winner of the science fair.” because… "Everybody in this room understands that our nation's success depends on strengthening America's role as the world's engine of discovery and innovation…and that leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today—especially in science, technology, engineering, and math."

  34. First Homework Assignment • Sign and return the parent letter and safety contract | Due MONDAY • Reminder: Obtain by Monday as well • Pencil/pen • Loose-leaf paper • Binder • 4 function calculator (no, your phone doesn’t count)

  35. Honors Textbooks • You will be assigned a textbook that you can keep at home to complete assignments. • Most nights you will assigned reading from the text. • You will turn in work from your readings at the end of the week. • Take care of your textbook. You will be charged if the book is lost and/or if it is heavily damaged.

  36. Honors Homework • Due Friday • Read Chapter 1 (Pages 2-17) • Answer questions 1-17 (end of section questions) • Read Pgs. 25-30 in Chapter 2 • Answer questions 1-11 (practice problems and end of section)

Explain what you must do to achieve this goal in order to “show your work.” • Students will pass the class • Students will blow stuff up • Students will be on time • Students will EXCEED THE HIGHEST EXPECTATIONS by achieving at least an 80% mastery on objectives and becoming College Ready.
