Content Area: Science • Grade Level:2nd Grade • Summary: The purpose of the PowerPoint is for students to learn that animals live in different places. • Learning Objective: Given questions in the PowerPoint, the student will be able to answer the questions about animals living in different places with 100% accuracy. • Content Standard: GLE 0207.2.2 Investigate living things found in different places. • Accomplishment: The students will gain an understanding of animals and their habitats and answer the questions within the PowerPoint.

  3. What is a Habitat? • A habitat is a place where a living thing lives. • Different animals live in different habitats. • There are four things that an animal needs to survive in its habitat. • food • water • shelter • oxygen

  4. What Do You Know? Take out a sheet of paper and try to name three different animals from three different habitats. Example: A camel lives in the desert.

  5. Forest Animals • Two types of forests: • Deciduous Forest- where many trees grow with enough rainfall and seasons change • Rainforest- receives rain almost everyday and top of trees receive more sunlight than the bottom Rabbit Bear Raccoon Bald Eagle Deer Bengal Tiger • Toucan Python Gorilla

  6. Grassland & Animals • Dominated by grasses • Takes place on flat or rolling land • Has periods of rain followed by periods of drought Elephant Giraffe Vulture Baboon Lion Zebras

  7. Desert & Animals • Very Dry and receives little to no rain fall each year • Temperatures are high during the day making it very hot • Very little vegetation is grown Scorpion Rattlesnake Ostrich Camels Kangaroo

  8. Marine & Animals • Covers 70% of the Earth and is the biggest habitat • Includes five oceans and other Bays and Gulfs • Pacific Ocean • Atlantic Ocean • Indian Ocean • Arctic Ocean • Southern Ocean • Water is very salty • Ocean plays a big role in weather Shark Whale Dolphin Fish Squid Octopus

  9. Arctic Animals • Short days most of the year • Harsh cold climate with strong winds • Known as “Arctic Desert” • Small amounts of perception • Most of the ground remains frozen called permafrost Polar Bear Penguins Lynx Snowy Owl Red Fox
