  2. Enlargement • When a shape is enlarged by a scale factor: • all sides must be multiplied by the scale factor. • All angles remain the same • New length = original length x scale factor

  3. Similar Figures • When 2 figures (shapes) are similar • Their shapes are the same • Their angles are the same • Corresponding lengths are in the same ratio, which is the scale factor of enlargement • All circles are similar • All squares are similar

  4. Similar Triangles • Corresponding lengths are opposite equal angles • The scale factor is the ratio of the corresponding sides

  5. Showing that 2 triangles are similar • You have to show that the triangles have either: • Equal angles or • Corresponding lengths are all in the same ratio
