  2. What is Nanotechnology? • The creation of machines on an extremely small scale: the molecular level1 • A nanometer is measured as one billionth of a meter • Nanotechnology is comprised of technology, science and engineering on a nanoscale1 • Molecules at this small scale can have unusual biological properties and chemical reactions1 • These unusual traits can lead to advances in many fields 1”Nanotechnology Basics for Students." Center for Responsible Nanotechnology Research. Web. 25 Apr. 2011. <http://www.crnano.orgbasics.htm>.

  3. What can nanotechnology be used for? • Can be used in the fields of agriculture, medicine, aerospace, homeland security, national defense, transportation and many more! • Helps create faster and better technologies than before1 • Examples1 • Nanoparticles can be used to make plastics lighter and cheaper • Nanotech can provide tools to help identify cancerous cells in humans • Helps create faster computer systems with very large amounts of storage space 1”Nanotechnology Basics for Students." Center for Responsible Nanotechnology Research. Web. 25 Apr. 2011. <http://www.crnano.orgbasics.htm>.

  4. Business Drivers • Nanotechnology could potentially be used to enhance almost any industry field • Can help speed up computer systems2 • Hold longer battery life in many products2 • Increase patient recovery time in hospitals2 • Can help clean up oil spills in factories and in parts of our environment2 • Used to purify water which could be used by various bottled water companies2 • Can be used to make film that can make a product be water-resistant, self-cleaning, scratch resistant, electrically conductive, etc. 2 • Nanotech can help revolutionize nearly any field in many ways • The ways to use this technology seem to be endless 2"NNI What Is Nanotechnology." National Nanotechnology Initiative. Web. 25 Apr. 2011. http://www.nano.gov/html/facts/whatIsNano.html.

  5. When will nanotech be ready for use? • NOW! • Some nanotechnology products are available for use today • Future • Many new products and uses for nanotechnology are being developed now, and will continue to be developed in the next few years • It can be difficult to develop nanotech products on a mass scale for retailers3 3PhysOrg.com. 6. Technologies nanotech may replace Possibilities are endless.. • Disc drives • Traditional storage mediums • Old batteries for everyday items • Many common plastics, and building products • There are numerous technologies that nanotech will replace, however this change will be for the better

  7. Current Use • Many companies and industries currently use nanotech • Healthcare2 • Precision machines and operation tools • Prescription drugs • Leisure activities • Tennis balls, baseball bats2 • Water Purification2 • The current companies that use nanotechnology are successful in this use. There are many industries that nanotechnology will enhance in the future. • Nano research and technology is spreading rapidly because of low costs of entry to market4 2"NNI What Is Nanotechnology." 8. Threats to other industries? • Not a large threat • Nanotechnology will replace previous technology (in plastics, science, agriculture, etc.) • If companies embrace the advances in nanotech, they will face no threat of replacement

  9. Evaluation • Nanotechnology is the way of our future • Nanotech will help revolutionize the way we do things, from medicine and pharmaceuticals all the way to construction and manufacturing • More research needs to be done to insure there are no harmful side affects of adapting to nanotech
