Punnett Squares

Punnett Squares. Punnett Squares ( tūtohi tukutuku or ตาราง Punnett ) are used to help us make genetic predictions . If two alleles are the same for a particular gene, we describe the genotype as homozygous ( พันธุ์ แท้ ), e.g. BB or bb for eye colour.

  1. Punnett Squares Punnett Squares (tūtohitukutukuor ตาราง Punnett) are used to help us make genetic predictions. If two alleles are the same for a particular gene, we describe the genotype as homozygous (พันธุ์แท้), e.g. BB or bb for eye colour. If two alleles are different for a particular gene, we describe the genotype as heterozygous (พันธุ์ผสม), e.g. Bb for eye colour.

  2. The probability of a child’s genotype being: - Heterozygous (brown eyes) will be 50% - Homozygous dominant (brown eyes) will be 25% - Homozygous recessive (blue eyes) will be 25% The probability of a child having: - Brown eyes will be 75% - Blue eyes will be 25%. E.g. Eye colour Mother’s alleles B B B b b b B B B Father’s alleles b b b
