Punnett Squares Punnett Squares (tūtohitukutukuor ตาราง Punnett) are used to help us make genetic predictions. If two alleles are the same for a particular gene, we describe the genotype as homozygous (พันธุ์แท้), e.g. BB or bb for eye colour. If two alleles are different for a particular gene, we describe the genotype as heterozygous (พันธุ์ผสม), e.g. Bb for eye colour.
The probability of a child’s genotype being: - Heterozygous (brown eyes) will be 50% - Homozygous dominant (brown eyes) will be 25% - Homozygous recessive (blue eyes) will be 25% The probability of a child having: - Brown eyes will be 75% - Blue eyes will be 25%. E.g. Eye colour Mother’s alleles B B B b b b B B B Father’s alleles b b b
