  3. mySocial Security • Your Online Account ... Your Control ... www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount my • mySocial Security is an easy-to-access, easy-to-use portal to view and update some of your own Social Security information.

  4. Who Can Create a mySocial Security Account? You must be at least 18 years old and have: • A valid E-mail address; • A Social Security number; and • A U.S. mailing address.

  5. mySocial Security Services If you don’t get benefits, you can— • View, save, and print your onlineSocial Security Statement. If you do get benefits you can— • Get your benefit verification letter; • Check your benefit and payment information and your earnings record; • Change your address and phone number; and • Start or change your direct deposit.

  6. mySocial Security is an Upgrade to Your Password Services If you have been using the old password system — • As of January 5, 2013, your old password will not work • You will need to create a mySocial Security account to use our upgraded online services • You do not need your old password to create a mySocial Security account

Your Online Social Security Statement Provides • Estimates of the retirement and disability benefits you may receive; • Estimates of benefits your family may get when you receive Social Security or die; • A list of your lifetime earnings according to Social Security’s records; • The estimated Social Security and Medicare taxes you’ve paid; • Information about qualifying and signing up forMedicare; and • A printable version of your Social Security Statement.

The Online Benefit Verification Letter With mySocial Security you can get your online benefit verification letter and use it as official proof of: • Your income when you apply for a loan or mortgage, assisted housing or other state or local benefits; • Your current Medicare health insurance coverage; • Your retirement or disability status; and • Your age.

  9. How To Get Your OnlineBenefit Verification Letter To get your benefit verification letter: • Sign into your account; and • Select “Get a Benefit Verification Letter.” • Your letter will be displayed and you may print it or save it for later use.

  10. mySocial Security Getting Started How to create a mySocial Security account my Step 1 Visit www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and select: mySocial Security Step 2 Select “Create An Account.”

  12. mySocial Security Provides Extra Security You will need to enter a unique code we will send to your text-enabled cell phone each time you want to sign in, in addition to your username and password. Your text message rates still apply. To add this feature, you will first have to provide us with one of the following to verify your identity: • The last eight digits of your Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card; • Information from your W-2 tax form; • Information from your 1040 Schedule SE (self-employment) tax form; or • Your direct deposit amount, if you receive Social Security benefits.

SSI Wage Reporting Reminders • Reporting wages monthly can prevent SSI overpayments and underpayments. • You can report wages by new mobile application, telephone, in office, mail or fax. • You can sign up to get monthly text or email reminders about wage reporting at www.ssa.gov/ssiwagereporting • If you want to report wages using our telephone service or Smartphone app, please contact your local Social Security office and speak to one of our representatives.

  17. Important Upcoming Changes • Beginning August 2014, we no longer will issue Social Security Number Printouts in our field offices. • Individuals who need proof of their Social Security Number will need to apply for a replacement card. • Beginning October 2014, our field offices will stop providing benefit verification letters, EXCEPT in emergency situations. • Benefit Verification letters are available online, through My Social Security, or requested through our national, toll-free number, 1 (800) 772-1213.
