Goal 1: Achievement • Goal 1: Achievement - Ensure each child achieves to his or her potential • What we will see: • Closing of the achievement gap • Guaranteed delivery of curriculum • Principals as instructional leaders • Shared leadership and accountability • Data used throughout the year to inform and improve instruction
Goal 2: Alignment • Goal 2: Alignment - Assure all students have quality school choices in their own communities • What we will see: • Six geographic Areas that offer learning close to home and provide aligned curriculum across all schools • Equitable student support and resources in all schools • Clear K-12 pathways
Goal 3: Sustainability • Goal 3: Sustainability - Equitably distribute resources; invest in what works. • What we will see: • Centralized funding to better distribute resources where they are needed most. • Investments will be made in programs with proven results • Align budgets to support efficiency and equity throughout the district
What’s new this fall? • Elementary schools become K – 5 sites • Sixth grade moves to middle school, strengthening student/teacher relationships • New Community School Zones ensure families have the best chance of getting into their community schools • All SPPS buildings are now open, including four formerly closed buildings
Student Performance is Improving • Graduation rates are up 10 percentage points since 2008 • American Indian students up 15 percentage points • Latino students up 17 percentage points • Drop out rate is down 10% since 2011 • MCA test scoresareup 9 percentage points since 2006 • Post-secondary enrollmentisup 7% since 2007 • Suspensionsaredown 30% since last year

Process to date Partners: • SPPS - Alternative Learning and Extended Day for Learning • SPPS - Community Education including: Discovery Club, Youth Enrichment and 21st Century Programs • SPPS - Community Partnerships • Saint Paul Sprockets • Saint Paul Park and Recreation • Worked with district leadership to define what SPPS can bring Community Partner engagement meetings in May and June

2013 – 2014 PILOT:Saint Paul Collaborative Afterschool Sites
Details So Far • Collaborative Sites for Fall 2013 include: • Riverview is the program site with students also coming from Cherokee • Battle Creek elementary is the program site with students also coming from Highwood Hills • What a day looks like: • Fall 2013 program session will run Monday-Friday from October 7- December 20 • Non program days include: October 17-18, November 15, 28 & 29. • Tentative program schedule: • 3:00-3:30 Snack and welcome activities • 3:30-5:00 Program time • 5:00 Bus home • Or 5:00-6:00 Possible Discovery Club option • Program 90 minutes
Next steps School Partners: • Continue work on coordination, logistics, transportation • Two Site Coordinators hired Community Partners: • Ability to deliver at school site • Ability to staff program two hours/day at least one day a week • Ongoing organizational commitment to quality • 15 partners have already committed!
