Operational Summary • Coalition forces continue attack • Control Baghdad International Airport solidified • Forces operating inside of Baghdad • Cordon being placed around Baghdad • British forces occupy large sections of Basrah • Still scattered resistance in An Najaf, As Sammawah, and An Nassiriyah • 5 days without missile attack into Kuwait
Security Situation Update • Rear Area Threat: • Iraqi surface to surface missile attacks still possible, though short-range threat diminished • Iraqi paramilitary activities north of Kuwaiti border • Travel in Iraq entails risk • Close interaction with HOC prior to departure is highly recommended to ensure receipt of the most recent security updates
Significant CMO/Civil Developments • Spain planning to assist HA effort in Iraq • Afloat assets: 14 bed level II+ • Arrive NAG approximately 9 Apr 03 • Field Hospital: 40 bed level II+ • General surgery • Dentist • Psychologist • Internal medicine
Southern Highlights • Overall • Population beginning to return to work • Basrah • Water situation stabilizing; no food crisis • Medical needs becoming priority • Medical supply deliveries will begin soon • Umm Qasr • Population increased dramatically
Southern Highlights • An Nasiriyah • Not permissive, but grip of paramilitaries broken, scattered pockets remain • Beginning to accept the end of the regime • Numaniyah • Residents appear happy for Coalition arrival • Umm Hagid (near Jalihbad) • No water or electricity; food is adequate • Small clinic in need of some staff and supplies • Stocked pharmacy • Population relatively healthy
