  2. My objective today is to • introduce the teaching team to you • show you how the Unit is organised and taught • introduce course assignments • outline the content of the Unit

  5. AAP Timetable • Lecture: Thursday 2-3pm, H102 • Video: Thursday 3-4pm, H102* *Videos which we own are held at the Library Circulation desk and can be viewed in the Library

  6. AAP Tutorials • 9 tutorial times allocated • maximum of 24 students in each class • register electronically through USQ Connect • Tutorials begin this week; make sure you register this week

  7. The Teaching Program • Lectures: 1 hour per week, not compulsory, but useful. • Tutorials: 1 hour per week. Not compulsory, but useful. Valuable skills development and discussion sessions. Participation in tutorials is allocated 10 marks. • Videos: 1 hour per week. Essential viewing as they are examinable. Videos discussed in tutorials each week.

  8. Tutorial Participation mark • A mark of 10% is allocated for quality of participation in tutorials in weeks 4, 7, 8, 12 and 14.

  9. Tutorial Participation mark • Quality of participation is assessed as a mark out of 20 for each of the five weeks nominated. • Final score out of 100 is divided by 10 to give you your participation mark.

  10. Consultation Philip Kitley’s consultation hours are: • Tuesday 11-12, and 3-4pm • Thursday 11-12. Come to Q block Betty Adcock’s hours • Tuesday 2-3 pm • Wednesday 3-4 pm • Come to Q block

  11. The AAP Study Package • Package consists of 4 elements: • the Introductory Book • the Study Book • 1 Book of ‘Core Readings’ • CMA test book

  13. Unit Specification for AAP • The Unit Spec is the USQ-student contract • AAP Unit Spec is on the Net, usqfocus and a hard copy is in the Library • See also the Unit Spec for external students in the Intro Book

  14. Changes to AAP in 2002 • We have made a number of changes to the Unit based on student feedback • The Readings are organised into ‘Core’ and ‘Supplementary’ Readings. Day students need to purchase only the ‘Core’ Readings • An Essay Proposal assignment has been introduced

  15. Changes to AAP in 2002 • The essay is marked out of 100 and there is a new Evaluation Sheet, see p. 27 Introd. Book. • The exam has been shortened from 2.5 hours to 2 hours • The exam will be structured differently, see p. 14 Introd. Book

  16. Assignments and Passing • You must achieve certain minimumstandards in assignments to pass the Unit: • At least 50% across the two CMA tests • At least 45/100 for the essay • At least 40/100 for the exam

  17. Assignments and Due Dates • Hand your work in by 5.00pm on the due date (usually a Tuesday) • The AAP Assignment Box is in the foyer of Q block • Late assignments will be penalised. See page iii. Penalty 10% per working day for up to 5 days, after which a zero grade is awarded.

  19. The AAP Essay Assignment • Day students must select one of the Set Topics listed on p29-30 of the Introductory Book • Use the resources of the Study Package and other references from the Library or the Web. See page 29 of the Introductory Book.

  20. Sources for the Set Topic essay:At least ‘2+2’ • Use at least 2 Core readings. A high grade essay would normally include reference to at least 4 Core Readings • Plus • 2 book chapters/OR • 2 journal articles/OR • 1 chapter and 1 article/OR • 1 chapter or article and 1 www source

Our objectives today … • To show you how the Unit is organised and taught – you know about lectures, tutorials and video sessions • To introduce assignments – you know what minimum standards you have to achieve to pass • To outline the content of the Unit – you know there are 9 modules, and you have a choice in module 7/8
