  1. CINEMA Project Update • Thomas Immel • UCB/SSL • Space Sciences Laboratory • University of California, Berkeley

  2. Summer 2010 Highlights • Core Flight Software Complete • Mechanical Design Approaching Completion • Avionics Stack Moved for Harness @ MICD v14 • Solar Panel Design and Test Complete • Attitude Control System Demonstrated w/Simulink • Power Systems Tested and Characterized • IIF Specification Complete – IIF Spec v2.2 • IIB Layout Complete – Ready for Fabrication • Magnetometer ICD and Tech Report Revised

  3. S-Band Radio S-Band Radio:Emheiser Transmitter EDTC-01E1A102-C0 Ready to order once pigtail length is determined (a current Mech and EE task) Max length 10.5”, current estimate 9.4”. RG316 Coaxial to be used for this and UHF Helium Receiver.

  4. Avionics Stack from Bottom Up • Flight Processor not ordered. 2nd dev unit purchased at SSL, 3 total dev units for UCB CINEMA. • Flight Clyde EPS thoroughly tested by Nestor Vargas and FSW team. • Charge current calibration • Max. Power Point Tracking • Battery discharge power cutoff : Found to be instantaneous • Flight Battery delivered, cold stored. • Flight UHF Helium Radio Receiver powered up. Testing procedures under development, but help is needed here.

  5. Instrument Interface Board v2.0 • Final revision of IIB from John Diaz replaces Nanonics 65 pin connector with 2 (2x17) floppy drive connectors. • This has implications for harnessing that are not completely appreciated at the moment, but it is a much easier connector to work with. • We’re ready to send this board out for quotes. Parts list needs to be checked twice. Layout done in DipTrace

  6. Instrument Interface Board v2.0 • KHU has also developed a test IIB board. • Layout is quite different, but based upon the same schematic and so should be electrically compatible with UPR IIB. • Incompatible with MICD due to large test connector. Layout done in Allegro

  7. MAGIC MAGIC Experiment Test Unit (ETU) delivery end of August. Test board w/PC104 connector and single-axis magnetometer. Other axes provided with test connections for test voltages. • Delivery in 4-6 weeks. Preparation for its arrival should include: • Initial FPGA programming • 2) Test harness preparation • 3) Development of testing procedures, CPDs

  8. CHANGES • FPGA MAG interface simplified. dsPIC Flight Software will command all reads of MAGIC ADC. • Change to an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) necessitates major changes in STEIN electronics. Until that is clarified, STEIN FPGA and electronics work is halted. • Development of alternative to GSEOS is now supported at UCB. Presentation and demonstration on Thursday.

  9. What are our top priorities? Develop UHF radio test procedures. Develop IIB/FPGA code. Produce the first set of IIBs. Produce 10 flight solar panels. Develop the Ground Support Software and Equipment. Prepare to receive the MAGIC ETU. Determine performance of sun sensors.

  10. What are our top risks? Known Unknowns: Fail to develop Ground Support Software Unexpected glitches with ADC reading of MAGIC Test of S-Band transmitter likely lengthy and difficult. Difficulty with ACS Harness innerconnect to SBAND, HELIUM, IIB, MAGIC, HVPS, STEIN will be difficult, same with all solar panels and radio connections. Unknown Unknowns: Communication with eventual STEIN via new GSE (as if GSEOS would be easier)? Performance of IIB? What will break when we shake?

  11. What are our top strengths?
