    2. Goals Content Goal We will read this legend to discover the lessons it teaches and why it stands the test of time. Language Goal We will write our answers in complete sentences restating the question in the answer and work on fluency as we read aloud. (+2)

Pre-teaching Vocabulary For each word below, write it and a synonym (a word that means the same thing) on your paper (+5) Refuse anything thrown away as useless Surpassed went beyond; excelled Emanating coming forth Relish pleasure and enjoyment Stifle hold back Elk Dogs are horses. Kingfishers are birds. White buffalo are rare signs of fortune.

    8. Post-Reading Analysis Comparative Literature- What are the similarities between Orphan Boy and the Elk Dog and Orpheus & Eurydice the Greek legend? Write your analysis in at least five sentences and include text-based details. (+5) Orpheus was the son of Apollo and Calliope. He married Eurydice who soon died. He followed her into Hades and begged Pluto to have her back. He said Orpheus could have her back if he left Hades trusting that she was right behind him. If he turned around to check that she was, Eurydice would spend eternity in Hades, and Orpheus couldnt have her back. Of course, Orpheus turned around to check on Eurydice so she died again, and he lived unhappily ever after.
