TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS(APPLICABLE TO CURRENT FIREARM OWNERS) • Transitional period of five (5) years for the renewal of licences, permits or authorisations • Replacement of corresponding licences in terms of Firearms Control Act, 2000 • Notice will be published in Government Gazette with renewal call up • Renewal period (1 Jan 2005 to 31 Dec 2008)

TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS RENEWAL PROCESS • Competency Certificate • Obtain training proficiency certificate from accredited training institution • Successfully completed prescribed test on knowledge of the Act • Apply at relevant DFO for competency certificate • Background evaluation • Fingerprints • Process applications on EFRS • Submit to CFR • Issue competency certificate • Print a Provincial Office of certificate • Licence to possess corresponding licence, permit or authorisation • Apply simultaneously with competency certificate at relevant DFO • Safe inspection – issue inspection certificate • Process application of EFRS • Submit to Provincial Office • Consider and issue licence, permit or authorisation at Provincial Office • Forward competency certificate and licence to relevant DFO
