  1. What is Bluetooth Messaging? • Bluetooth, is a short-range wireless system supported by mobile devices and is the transmission medium used for proximity messaging. • The process of proximity messaging involves setting up Bluetooth "broadcasting" equipment (i.e. ‘server’) at a particular location and sending out information to Bluetooth enabled mobile phones. • Messages can be text, images, audio or video to Bluetooth enabled mobile phones that are within range of the broadcast server.

  2. What does the equipment consist of? • The Astracast unit is the size of a small hardback book and is easily programmable from any laptop or desktop PC. • The unit has 3 transponders that can ‘pair’ with up to 21 mobile phones every 40 seconds. • The unit can be powered by mains, a portable lithium battery or an in-car power adaptor.

  3. How does it work? • Simply turning on the unit starts the transmission of messages to mobile phones in the vicinity. • The unit is a Class 1 device & has a broadcast range of 100 metres. Mobile phones are Class 2 devices and have a range of up to 25-30 metres. • Messages can be prepared in design packages i.e. Photoshop and a time plan created prior to transfer of the message. • All updating of the unit is via a USB stick.

  4. How can it be deployed? • In case of emergency or a public information campaign, in any Police vehicle, motorbike. • Advance warning of a large event – Festival, Carnival or large public gathering. • Discreet size of the unit allows automatic, unmanaged broadcasting.

  5. Proximity Messaging Benefits • Zero transmission costs. • ‘Green’ information management – no litter, waste or unused flyers. • Message stays with mobile phone user for later use and ‘viral’ effect enables your message to be forwarded to friends & family. • Accountability – statistics package show the number of users who accepted & declined your message.
