Continuous Guiding Concerns • Preference for one central campus for all four Schools • Maintenance of a geographical and functional location where a critical mass of the School of Nursing is gathered • Opportunity to increase the integration of the School w/other units on campus through future development of space and resources

  3. Relation of New Hospital to School of Nursing • Teaching • Clinical and classroom space at Mission Bay • More classrooms equipped w/audio-visual & teleconferencing equipment • Research • Designated space for physical assessment laboratories • Increased computerized library space for research, studying & conferences

Relation of New Hospital toSchool of Nursing • Proximity to New Hospital • Need to teach clinical courses w/in hospital • Dedicated space to conduct outpatient meetings • Ability to provide rapid response to calls from the hospital and/or colleagues located in the hospital • Offices close to patient care areas & clinics • Ability to recruit students & provide quick & easy access to the hospital • Expanded shuttle services between campuses

Relation of New Hospital to Department & Faculty Success • Community Health Systems • Patient access in an ambulatory care center to care for/research chronic illnesses & primary care practices • Designated space w/in the clinic to conduct research, teach, & hold clinical training classes • Ability to access information systems, computers, & desk space • Space to hold group meetings & space for post-doctoral fellows

Relation of New Hospital to Department & Faculty Success • Family Health Care Nursing • Flexible space for Masters Entry into Nursing Program • Dedicated, consistent, & reliable space to conduct patient interviews in close proximity to health clinics (private & does not resemble a classroom) • Teleconferencing & technical support to teach classes of 60 or more students • Designated research space w/ locking file cabinets

  7. Relation of New Hospital to Department & Faculty Success • Family Health Care Nursing (cont’d) • Health assessment laboratory space • Need for programs near hospital (midwifery, neonatal & pediatric care) • Classroom space for at least 30 students

Relation of New Hospital to Department & Faculty Success • Physiological Nursing • Proximity to acute care centers, hospital & ambulatory care clinics • Based with School of Medicine colleagues • Various lab space: conduct clinical procedures; physiological labs for humans & animals; molecular labs • Space for clinical trials, cooking demos, exercise equipment & fitness facilities • Ability to conduct research (oncology, cardio-vascular, gerontology, long term health care)

Relation of New Hospital to Department & Faculty Success • Social and Behavioral Sciences • Office space for faculty who need to be close to hospital due to research on disability, chronic disease, death & dying, & health policy • Concerns about increased fragmentation & isolation between departments w/in School • Teleconferencing capabilities • Efficient shuttle & transportation services

  10. Relation of New Hospital to Department & Faculty Success • Administration • Satellite administrative offices for support staff • Lockers, changing areas, lounges & eating facilities to help improve quality of work life
