SQA regularly reviews our qualifications against industry standards and practitioner feedback to ensure they continue to be fit for purpose and are developing appropriate skills for their particular sector. The HNDs delivered by our centres in China will also be reviewed and this update is to let you know when this will happen, how it will happen and how we will keep you informed of developments.

  4. The key plans are: • Revised Business sector HND frameworks, along with an updated framework for Financial Services, will be implemented from September 2012. • Plans for Global Trade and Business are underway although it is likely that a review will take place during 2012 for implementation in 2013, but this will be confirmed. • Computing, Hospitality and Travel and Tourism frameworks will undergo a review with plans to implement revised HND frameworks from September 2013. • All other frameworks only require some individual Unit updates and this will be implemented from September 2012.

  5. Plans for Implementation: • From September 2011, SQA will provide communications and events to update and support centres and External Verifiers on developments relating to the revised Business Sector HNDs. The Chian website will provide you with regular updates as plans commence. Plans are underway to identify materials and different methods of supporting students and tutors in learning and teaching.

  6. Timelines and purpose of the communications and training events 23th and 26th September 2011 SQA will update on: • Review and Revision of all HND frameworks and plans for implementation to 2013 • Specific revision of Business sector HNDs, • Unit updates in the Financial Services HND (and Global Trade and Business, if deliverable from 2012) • Process for providing SQA with feedback from your centre on the revised Business sector frameworks Spring 2012 – Dates to be confirmed • To provide training workshops for External Verifiers on the revised Business sector HND frameworks To update External Verifiers on the Unit updates of the Financial Services HND framework Summer 2012 – Dates to be confirmed • To provide training workshops for centre staff on the revised Business sector HND frameworks To update centres on the Unit updates of the Financial Services HND framework September 2012 • Students commencing the HND programme in August/September 2011 will follow the 2005 framework for first (2011-12) and second (2012-13) year. • Students commencing the HND programme in August/September 2012 must follow the 2012 framework for first (2012-13) and second (2013-14) year. • The revised HND Business sector frameworks and Units they now contain are found at this link. (For the wesite). Clicking onto the Units contained within the framework will take you to the individual Unit specification.

  7. Training requirements from the centre Please let SQA know the areas of training staff in your centre might require relating to the Unit changes and Framework revisions. For each HND sector framework, nominate one person to provide feedback by collating comments from colleagues who deliver that specific HND. For Example, for HND Business with Accounting – nominate one person to collate and agree feedback from colleagues who deliver this. The nominated person then provides a response to SQA. Your feedback must be sent to SQA by 17 October 2011.

Summary of Changes to Units Relating to HND Administration and IT • The Units for year one and year two of the framework have been adjusted slightly to allow for integration between related Units. • Business Accounting (F84M 34) and Creating a Culture of Customer Care (DJ42 34) will now be delivered in year one. • Creating a Culture of Customer Care (DJ42 34) and Office Administration (F7JA 34) may be integrated. • Year two now includes Office Management (F84D 35) and Developing the Individual within a Team (F86Y 35) to allow integration of these two Units with Presentation Skills and ICT in Business.

  13. Specific Units changes relating to HND Business comprise • Three of the Units specific to this award has been revised. Assessment Exemplars are or will be available for all the Units. • Graded Units are retained within the revised HNDs. Each Graded Unit 1 has minor revisions which mainly reflect the revised awards. Assessment task structure and assessment conditions remain the same.Each Graded Unit 2 is a significantly different approach. This is now a 2-credit project type Unit.

  15. Specific Units changes relating to HND Business with Accounting comprise: • Three of the four Units specific to this award have been revised. The main focus of these revisions related to the assessment conditions. Pass mark boundaries have been removed and replaced with an error tolerance. Assessment Exemplars are available for all the Units. • Graded Units are retained within the revised HNDs. Each Graded Unit 1 has minor revisions which mainly reflect the revised awards. Assessment task structure and assessment conditions remain the same.Each Graded Unit 2 is a significantly different approach. This is now a 2-credit project type Unit.

  17. Specific Units changes relating to HND Business with HRM comprise: • None of the Units specific to this award have been revised. Assessment Exemplars are available for all the Units. • Graded Units are retained within the revised HNDs. Each Graded Unit 1 has minor revisions which mainly reflect the revised awards. Assessment task structure

Specific Units changes relating to HND Business with IT comprise: • All of the Units specific to this award have been revised but only IT in Business: Advanced Word Processing has significant revisions. Assessment Exemplars are available for all the Units. • Graded Units are retained within the revised HNDs. Each Graded Unit 1 has minor revisions which mainly reflect the revised awards. Assessment task structure and assessment conditions remain the same.Each Graded Unit 2 is a significantly different approach. This is now a 2-credit project type Unit.

Specific Units changes relating to HND Business comprise: • Only one of the Units has been revised, the revisions are minor and relate to increasing opportunities to integrate with other Units for assessment purposes. Assessment Exemplars are available for all the Units. • Graded Units are retained within the revised HNDs. Each Graded Unit 1 has minor revisions which mainly reflect the revised awards. Assessment task structure and assessment conditions remain the same. Each Graded Unit 2 is a significantly different approach. This is now a 2-credit project type Unit.
