Installing Patches on the ALSMS Server • Occasionally patches (updates) will come out for the ALSMS software. • Assuming that you have a software subscription for the ALSMS, patches are free. • The patches usually include any fixes or updates that need to be done before the next major revision of the software as well as some minor feature releases. Installing Patches on the ALSMS Server • The first thing that you do is download the latest patch from: http://custcare.hr-firewalls.lucent.com • Load the patch on the ALSMS machine either by USB flash drive or CD. • Close the ALSMS Navigator. • Open Windows explorer and locate the downloaded patch. Installing Patches on the ALSMS Server • Double click on the patch icon. • Install Shield will load and unpack the software, stop the ALSMS services do all of the necessary updates and then re-start the services for you when the operation is complete. • During the process you will be prompted a few times . • Assuming that this is a standalone ALSMS click OK • Assuming you know the password, click OK • Enter Admin ID and Password • Click Continue after everything has been loaded • When done click OK • No keys are necessary during this operation. • Open up the ALSMS navigator • Look in the top center of the screen to confirm that you are running the latest patch and that your update was successful.   6. At this point your ALSMS has been updated, but the software has not been downloaded to the Bricks yet. You have many options with regard to downloading the software to the Bricks. The important things to note are: The download happens over an encrypted link The Bricks will require a reboot to run the upgraded software Reboot time is less than one minute, but needs to be considered. Installing Patches on the ALSMS Server • If you want to download the software to individual Bricks Double Click on the Bricks folder, then Right Click on the Brick that you want to download the new software to and select Software Download. • If you want to download to multiple Bricks at the same time see the next slide.   8. Right Click on the Bricks folder. Select from the three options. “Software Download for multiple Bricks” will download to select groups of Bricks or all Bricks, but will not reboot the Brick at this time. If you choose this option you will then use the second option “Reboot Multiple Bricks” at a later time. The third option will both do the download and do the reboot as soon as the download is complete.   9. Installing Patches on the ALSMS Server • Any of the three options will give you the same pop up window. However it is configured differently based on which option you pick. • Notice the options near the bottom for rebooting a redundant pair of Bricks. If you reboot the active Brick after the download the Standby Brick will take over and the network will stay up. After you have completed the download to both Bricks reboot the (new) active Brick to complete the operation. Alcatel-Lucent – ProprietaryUse pursuant to company instruction
