  5. To define the term and describe mass tourism (E-D) What is mass tourism? Mass tourism: tourism on a large scale to one country or region. Often Packaged holidays with accommodation and travel included Who’s been on a packaged holiday? Why might you go on one?

ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF MASS TOURISM IN KENYA (complete with loads of LINKS) START HERE: More tourists Tourist stay in hotels and spend money on local cafés and shops (more income for local businesses). Money earned by locals mean they can buy food and other necessities Increase demand for goods and services in agriculture, drinks, transport, entertainment, textiles and crafts. So people NOT directly involved in tourism industry also make more money More money for improving infrastructure and facilities for locals and tourists. (Money can be used to help protect and improve the ENVIRONMENT too) Their increased wages mean more taxes and money for the government

  14. DISADVANTAGES OF MASS TOURISM IN KENYA (complete with loads of LINKS) More facilities and infrastructure built for the tourists. People’s homelands destroyed Popular sites suffer footpath erosion and in safari parks off road vehicles erode the soil Environmental habitats destroyed More cars and other transport means more noise and air pollution START HERE: More tourists means…. Untreated sewage from new hotels goes into rivers and the sea Divers damage coral reefs and tourists take bits home as souvenirs Animals in Safari parks disturbed, so their breeding patterns are affected Jobs are seasonal and Kenyans struggle to get management jobs
