Tuesday April 30 5th Hour • TARGET CCR : Evaluate a speaker’s point of view, reasoning,& use of evidence and rhetoric: (SL.11-12.3 with video (analyze & compose objective summary with text RI.11-12.2) • CCR I can respond to ongoing feedback and new arguments to produce and update my writing (using Eli  & partner discussions) • Note taking in an organized manner • (always collecting sources) • Types of summarization:(Hand out definitions) • 1. synopsis • 2. paraphrase • 3. précis • 4. abstract

Week 2 Wednesday May 1 • Propaganda Project: purpose/objective : to demonstrate understanding of propaganda to identify propaganda for making educated decisions • Agenda/Lessons: • Wednesday – Define Propaganda: select 10 or more techniques & define begin hunting for examples • Thursday • Advertisement examples /Note Technique used& explanation as to how company incorporated it • Friday : Project time: Typing day for explanations of each technique used in ads

WEEK 3 May 6-10 • Monday : Complete Project & prepare to write Reflection Piece for propaganda project in ELI • Review tomorrow • HWwrite Draft reflection if not completed in class assemble booklet, add table of contents, Due Thursday • Friday share booklets (pick 2 Ad pages, one of the written examples & Your Reflection Page) • (Students will work on research paper and propaganda project each day)

Rubric for Propaganda Project • Due start of class ______________ Student name ______________________hour___________date_________ • Create a booklet using 8 x 11 paper. • REQUIRED: 5 points ~ Cover with Name, Date, Hour, & Title of Project • 5 points ~ Must have Table of Contents • 1. 10 points Research and define propaganda ~ cite your sources • 2. 10 pointsList of definitions of 10 techniques • 3. 24 points Propaganda techniques • Provide 2 examples of 6 different techniques by using an advertisement (4point per example) • 4. 30 Explain with clarity how each advertisement uses the technique in a small paragraph at the bottom of each ad, or on back if no room (reference and state specifically what is in the ad) 2 points each • 5. Then Find….propaganda in written communication (use your research topic) • 15 points ~ A Magazine article: explain technique(s) used • 15 points~ A Newspaper article; explain technique • 10 points~ A Editorial cartoon; explain technique • 6. 15 points~ Reflection Page: • Write a full page DBL spaced reflection of what you learned explaining how you might apply to your life. Reference some of your examples for support as you explain. Ethos Pathos Logos • Read article and model highlighting of ethos, pathos, and logos. • Student read their articles on their selected topics • Create a color key to highlight text • Identify & Highlight ethos, pathos, logos • At end of article review the colors and determine the balance of ethos, pathos, and logos. Write a paragraph stating which element is most effective, which is least effective and explain why on both points.
