Technical equipment Feeding system Depends of the substrate • Dry matter < 12% pumped from tanks to the digesters • Dry matter > 25% solid feeder and augers to the digesters Configurations: Walking floor : corn, cereals (size 20-120 m³) Mixer feeder: straw (size 8 -80m3) manure + straw paste materials (powder) liquid producing materials

  10. Technical equipment Pumping system In general a susbtrate is pumpable when: Dry matter <12 %, homogeneos, particle size < 12mm Pumping system: Any possible substrate movement is allowed

Technical equipment Pumps Most of the pumps used are Positive Displacement Pumps Pumps type: • Rotary lobe pump: price high wear (more maintenance) + size - easy maintenance suction capacity < 0,9 bar • Progresive cavity pump: less maintenance time demanding maintenance + high pressure (25 bar) - suction capacity < 0,9 bar 500 kW power plant 11 kW, 50 m3/h

  12. Technical equipment Pumps • Long distance between substrate storage tank and pump station ? • Centrifugal pump • directly in the tank • Normally used for manure • DM= 8% 11 kW 90 m3/h.

Technical equipment Agitators • Submersible Agitators: Used in all installations • Possibility to change - height - orientation • 17kW -> agitate 1000 m3 • 10 min every hour • always during digester feeding • Dry substrate Agitators Used for dry substrates • straw, mais, cereals, offal flour • Low density of the substrates • < 1 g / cm3 • Destroy acumulations of solids. • 15kW similar capacities

Technical equipment Pasteurization • Heat treatment (EU 1774) • avoid risk of dispersal of patogens from any animal subproduct • 70°C, 1h • Pumpable material • Two pumps are required • Tanks with heating and mixing system. • When sizing consider heating time (4 h) • Pasteurized material should not be put directly in to digester
