    8. Sistema Isotpico U-Th-Pb Pb es producido por tres sistemas de decaimiento de U y Th 238U ? 234U ? 206Pb 235U ? 207Pb 232Th ? 208Pb

    16. Material a fechar con el sistema U-(Th)-Pb Aplicable a rocas que contienen minerales con altas concentraciones de U y Th y poco Pb. No se pueden usar muestras de roca entera pero s minerales accesorios como zircn, thorita, allanita (ortita), gadolinita, granate y esfena (titanita) (silicatos); uraninita y columbita (xidos); monacita, apatito y xenotimo (fosfatos). Estas fases tienen sitios estructurales adecuados para alojar uranio y torio, as como otros elementos incompatibles. Las rocas gneas o metamrficas de composicin grantica son las ms adecuadas.

    17. Material a fechar con el sistema U,Th-Pb La gran mayora del Pb contenido en el mineral a fechar debe ser de origen radiognico y adems su cantidad se va aumentando en funcin del tiempo. Distintas generaciones de zircones (reconocidas por sus morfologas, color, magnetismo, inclusiones) dan edades diferentes an en las mismas unidades de roca. Fases adoptadas de eventos ms tempranos, complican la interpretacin de estas edades.
