  2. The Minor Prophets: Jonah • About the author • Jonah means “Dove” • Historical Context • 790-750 B.C. (Early Assyrian Period) • Nineveh was the capital of Assyria; well known as a place of cruelty. (Approx 220 miles NW of present-day Baghdad) • Tarshish was located in southern Spain, in the opposite direction from Nineveh.
