  3. Learning Lines Our children are assessed on entry in EYFS, again in year 2 and finally in Year 6. This information projects how well they should at GCSE – this is know as their LEARNING LINE A score of 100 is expected level. – Our children know this as their FFT We encourage our children at every stage to maintain and surpass their capabilities by regularly reviewing their attainment levels. F – Flying A – Above I – inline (at age expected) T – Towards H – Help is required

  4. Reading Expectations Year 6 Expectations Reading at HomeWe expect Year 6 pupils to read novel style books, therefore they may not finish the book in one sitting or a week. We want them to read at home every day. We are keen for the children to progress in their reading, to do this they need to read aloud daily to an adult. We know our children CAN read fluently but can struggle with comprehending questions. This means it is important you discuss the book with increasing depth through questioning them. Questions are effective because they: Give children a purpose for reading Focus children's' attention on what they are to learn. Help children to think actively as they read

  7. Maths Arithmetic paper – 36 questions in 30 minutes

  8. Reasoning papers 2 & 3 (Calculators NOT allowed) Paper two is on reasoning. There are 23 questions, with questions worth one, two or three marks. The test lasts for 40 minutes and is worth 35 marks overall. Paper three. There are 21 questions, with questions worth one or two marks. The test lasts for 40 minutes and is worth 35 marks overall.

  9. SPaGSpelling, Punctuation and Grammar Punctuation & Grammar The grammar and punctuation paper is a mixture of multiple choice and short-answer questions. Pupils will also be asked to add punctuation to prewritten sentences. There are 50 questions and each question is worth one mark. The test lasts for 45 minutes. Example from this year – Spelling There are 20 words that they need to spell and each word is worth one mark each. The last lasts for 15 minutes and is worth 20 marks overall A selection from this year – Spelling 1: The dragon is an imaginary creature. Spelling 2: There was enough food for everyone. Spelling 3: My little brother is in reception class. Spelling 4: Playing in the snow made my fingers numb. Spelling 5: We learned how to do division in mathematics.

  12. How can you help? The best help is interest taken in learning and progress. Good communication between the school and home. Getting a good sleep on a school night! Ensuring attendance at school is good. AND LOTS OF PRAISE AND ENCOURAGEMENT!
