The Cleansing of Naaman2 Kings 5 • Naamanwas the leader of the Syrian army v.1 • Syrians were enemies of Israel • Naaman was a leper • Israelite girl was taken from home & family v.2 • She was a servant of Naaman’s wife v.2 • "If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.“ v.3 • She expressed her faithv.3 • Compassion, no bitterness Eph. 4:32

The Cleansing of Naaman2 Kings 5 • Naaman told his master the king of Syria v.4 • The king (Ben-Hadad) sent Naamanwith a letter to the king of Israel (Jehoram) asking him to heal Naaman of his leprosy (and a large gift for services rendered) v.5 • FaithlessJehoramassumed Ben-Hada was trying to start a war by asking something impossible “Am I God?” v.7 • Jehoram was so upset that he tore his clothes • That would be big news v.8

The Cleansing of Naaman2 Kings 5 • Elisha the prophet heard about it v.8 • He sent a message to Jehoram“Please let him come to me and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” Elisha delegated his work • Naaman went to Elisha’s house v.9 • Elisha sent a messenger (servant) to tell him what to do v.10 • "Go and wash in the Jordanseven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean."

The Cleansing of Naaman2 Kings 5 • Naaman rejoiced to hear how easy it would be • V.11Naaman became furious and went away • He said, I thought Isa. 55:8-9, Prov. 12:15 • He will surely come to me, and stand Mt. 11:28 • and call upon the name of Jehovah his God, • and wave his hand over the place, WHY? • and heal the leprosy HOW? Do something for me • Then he suggested substitute rivers • God’s plan did not make sense 1 Cor. 1:18-31

The Cleansing of Naaman2 Kings 5 • Naamanreturned to Elisha’s house v.15 • This time Elisha met him now that he’s clean • Hecame and stood before him and said, Indeed now I know…must obey to know John 7:17, 8:31,32; 1 John 2:3-6 • There is no God in all the earth except in Israel • This is the lesson forall menActs 17:24-31 • Wanted to give Luke 7:36-50, Gal. 6:6 • Elisha refused reward Rom. 1:14-16, Ef. 2:8-10 • Grace from God though Naaman had to obey
