Welcome to Frau Fleming's German classes! We focus on the five C's of language acquisition and prepare students for the AP German Language & Culture exam and beyond. Our project-based instruction enhances learning through real-life examples, such as the Syrian refugee crisis and exploring the cuisine of German-speaking countries. Homework includes regular practice and study to improve fluency in speaking and writing German. Join our classes to develop proficient academic foreign language speaking skills!

  5. Project-based instruction • an example: • Syrian refugee crisis • Yesterday’s kick-off event: Melissa Fleming, Head of Communications and Spokesperson of the UNHCR, held a Google Hangout meeting with German students, as well as some AP World History and International Relations students.

Project-based instruction • an example: • Cuisine of German-Speaking Countries • To become acquainted with the regional cuisines within the German-speaking countries • To learn about the traditions surrounding food • To study the practices and attitudes pertaining to food and health in these countries • To learn to read recipes in German • To cook a dish using a recipe in German • To describe the nutritional aspects of this recipe • To write and publish a banquet menu • To compile and publish a class cookbook in German • To write an invitation (evite) • To plan and organize buffet banquet

Practice makes perfect! • Telefonpartnerarbeitexpected 3 times per week, due every two weeks. • ONE OF THE KEYSTONES OF FHS GERMAN • Parents need to sign EACH time for credit. • Objective: to improve fluency in spoken German. • PROFICIENT ACADEMIC FOREIGN LANGUAGE SPEAKING SKILLS MATTER IN COLLEGE!!!!! • I will get your child there, IF your child participates fully and consistently in my assignments and activities.

  9. Homework = Review & Study Übung macht den Meister! Practice makes perfect! • Daily study of all provided materials as well as reading and writing activities are emphasized • 15-30 minutes for German 1-3 (often less, sometimes more) • 30-60 for AP / Honors • Vocabulary study (10 words/expressions daily) • Students should continually review vocabulary (this is essential to acquiring a new language) • Use flashcards, a flashcard app, and/or Quizlet.com • Revisions of tests and compositions • compositions must be typed in MLA format!
