  2. Three hostages were freed unharmed Wednesday when police shot and killed a gunman with explosives in the lobby of the Discovery Channel network's headquarters. The dead gunman was identified as James Lee, 43. He had a history of protesting the Discovery Channel over concerns about its programming and the environment. On a website registered to Lee, he expressed anger with the Discovery Channel and said it promoted overpopulation.
