  2. Thesis The Preamble serves as the thesis of the United States constitution, describing what is portrayed in the details of the constitution.

The Preamble • "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

  4. The Preamble continued… • The preamble is considered the thesis of the Constitution • It presents the argument of the Constitution

  5. 3 Main Points • “We the People” • “to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity • do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

  6. “We the people”… • People writing the Constitution for the people • Who the Constitution is pertaining to • Who will be affected by the laws and restraints of the Constitution ** The Constitution was only wrote by 1 person- James Madison

  7. “to form a more perfect Union… • What the Constitution is going to do • list all of the actions and the services that the Constitution will create for America • form a more perfect Union- perfect country • establish Justice- Create laws and court systems • insure domestic Tranquility- peace in our country among citizens

  8. Continued… • provide for the common defense- Protection (Armies) • promote the general Welfare- Well being of each citizen • secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity - Secure Freedom for us and the Americans to come.

  9. “Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America” • Ties back into religion. • It is saying that with the blessing of god we will do it.
