In trying to explain how they concoct their outlandish work, she said they spend their days routinely throwing out ideas and free-associating. Ms. Allora stared at a jar of honey in front of her. “I’ll say, ‘Let’s do something with honey,’ ” she explained. “And Guillermo will start talking about bees, and he’ll say the word honeycomb, the object.
