Our website and API is built by using Windows Azure Cloud Services. We use Virtual Machines to host the database. We use caching service to do rich analytics because we don’t want to hit the database with every website failure. We use the Queue service and the Table service for processing failures. Traditional means of error logging lack sophistication and typically involve an email list of failures. Appfail sought to enable users to focus on the specific failures—out of thousands—that mattered most. Examples include an e-commerce site where a product page fails to load or where credit cards are charged twice. Some customers report as many as 60,000 failures a day. SITUATION: Released in November 2012, Appfail is an analytics engine used to diagnose and prioritize website failures. The company developed Appfail by using a Windows Azure software-as-a-service model because it required scalability and a low barrier to entry. The solution uses Windows Azure components including Cloud Services (compute), Queue service, Table service, Content Delivery Network, Virtual Machines, Mobile Services, and more. Windows Azure Infrastructure Services hosts a MongoDB database. Appfail also has a Windows Phone 8 app and aWindows 8 app for monitoring website events on the go.
