  2. Objective • To identify the different types of pipes, fittings, valves and pump in a piping network • To determine the pressure drop and thus the friction coefficient for fluid flow through different diameter tubes • To make a friction factor chart using the data

  4. Important formulae • Reynolds No: Re < 2100 Laminar region Re > 4000 Turbulent region • Friction factor: • Friction factor for Laminar flow • Friction factor using Colebrook and White equation (turbulent flow)

  5. Steps of Experiment • Understand the piping network and determine the flow direction through different diameter pipes. • Connect the probes of the differential pressure meter to the pressure tapings attached with a pipe. • Allow water to flow only through that pipe. • Note down the flow rate and pressure readings. • Change the flow rate by controlling the inlet valve and take the pressure reading for atleast four flow rates each in both laminar and turbulent regime. • Repeat the procedure for all the different diameter pipes and elbow fittings.
