Eligibility Rules • Minimum 2.0 GPA with no F’s • Informed Consent and Athletic Code of Conduct Forms signed by both student and Parent • Physical signed & stamped by Doctor required - Dated 5/13/2010 or later - due at the GSHS Office by the last day of school. • School offers physical 4-8:30pm on 5/13 @ 300-304 wing (new rooms). Cost $10

  5. Evaluaton & Selection Process • Tryout Dates May 4, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13 • Closed Tryout’s will be judged based on a “3 A’s” System. • Points awarded for Attitude, Attendance, and Aptitude on a daily basis • 180 Points Possible (30 pts/day) • Points System: 140 pts required to be eligible • Must wear GSHS ($20) or Middle School PE Uniform to tryouts • Being late, absent, or any breach of dress code, school rules, disrespect or rudeness during tryouts is an automatic 10 point minimum deduction.

  6. Time Commitment • Cheerleading is a BIG Commitment! • Practice 3 days per week (T, W, TH) from 6-8pm from Jul thru Nov • May 14 Uniform Fitting 4pm @ Greenwood Community Center • June 14 UCA Cheer Clinic 1-4pm @ Truckee HS • July 6-7-8 Jr Cheer Camp (Fundraiser) 6-8pm Garden Valley Park • Jul 26-29 UCA Cheer Camp @ UC Monterey (Optional, but highly encouraged) • Games Friday Nights 3:00 – 10:00 Aug thru Nov (generally) • Stunt Clinics (1-2) dates & gym TBA • Cheer Competitions (1-2) in November and December – local, Dates TBD Note: Basketball Season Tryouts will be held separately in Nov

Cheer “Leader” Expectations • Rally Planning and Participation • Provide a presence at Back to School Night in uniform, representing, helping, directing, and welcoming • In uniform first day of school - helping new students find their way • Partners with Leadership, Link Crew, Conflict Mediators, Peer Advocates throughout season • Promoting school spirit! • You are LEADERS who cheer!

  8. Inherint Risk of Injury • Cheerleading can be dangerous! There are inherint risks of injury just as with any other sport. • 80% of cheerleading injuries occur in practice performing unqualified stunts • Coach/Advisor will be present at all practices and enforce all safety rules • Coach/Advisor will constantly evaluate squad members to ensure they stay safely within their ability level - Stunts or Skills will be qualified • NO COACH?@! NO PRACTICE!!

Emergency Care Plan • During an emergency the coach will stay with the injured person • A reliable person will call 911 and give the exact location and basic injury information, providing instructions to ambulance as to where to enter field/facility • Two cheer squad members will be sent to meet the ambulance and direct emergency personnel to the injured person • If a parent is not present, the coach will travel with the injured person to the hospital and stay with them until a parent arrives. • The Cheer Squad must be supervised until released to their parents • The squad will be trusted to the care of another GSHS teacher/advisor • Cheerleading will be cancelled for the remainder of the day/practice/game/event.

  10. Transportation • We need parent volunteers to carpool for Squaw Valley Clinic, Monterey Cheer Camp, and Outside Competition(s) • Students provide own transportation for on-time arrival at all practices • Cheer Squad required to travel as a team on the school bus to all away games. • Girls must be signed out to ride home with family or friends after the game or will be returned on the bus to GSHS.

  11. Cheer Rules: General • Cheerleading is a team effort to promote the spirit of Golden Sierra High School. • You are a representative of the school and serve as an example to the community, school staff and administrators, your fellow students, players and cheerleaders. • You are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct at all times, both in and out of uniform. • Arrive ON TIME and attend all practices, games and events. Unexecused tardiness or absences will result in the team suspension procedure. • Repeat incidents will disqualify cheerleaders from competition. • No Cell Phones at practice!! Turn them off until the close of practice.

  12. Cheer Rules: Uniform/Appearance • Uniform is to be worn only in conjunction with team events and team spirit days with all team members matching. No other articles of clothing are to be worn with the uniform. (i.e., flip flops, different shirt) • Uniform must be clean and in good condition at all times. • No rolling down or up of warm up pants, skirts, or practice shorts. Midriff and kick pants must be covered, and bra straps concealed. • No jewelry may be worn during practices or games and makeup to be minimal and in good taste. Hair to be tied back out of your face for the entire game and all practices. • Bring all parts of the uniform to all games and performances. • If a part of the uniform is lost, individual must purchase a new one at their own expense immediately. • Full uniform must be worn during the entire game or event unless coach states otherwise, including shoes. • Practice Attire: It is REQUIRED that cheerleaders wear their PE Uniform OR one of three official cheer practice shorts and t-shirts to practices. Appropriate shoes - sneakers with socks and shoelaces must be worn. • Fingernails to be trimmed and are not to extend beyond the end of your fingers for safety reasons. No nail polish is allowed on game days

  13. Cheer Rules: Conduct • Team members will follow all school rules during cheer functions. • Team members to display excellent citizenship as a representative of Golden Sierra High School and follow the GSHS Code of Conduct at all times. • Team will walk together as a group to and from all games, performances, etc.. Disappearing at games or practices will not be tolerated. You must inform your coach where you are at all times. • A discipline referral to the administration from your coach will result in initiation of the team suspension procedure, involving consultation with the parent, coach, and administration. • Team members will participate in all dances or cheers called by their coach unless on probation. • Team members are to promote good sportsmanship, school, and team spirit. • During games when not cheering, cheerleaders must stand in ready position unless on an official break. • No eating during games is allowed except off the field during break or half-time (after your routine is complete). • It is recommended you eat something light before arriving or wait until break or between games. Water is allowed and will be made available at all times. Each cheerleader is responsible to bring a clean water bottle and snack to team events • Team members must show up dressed appropriately and prepared or they will be asked to sit out or leave the practice, game, or event.

  14. Cheer Rules: Attendence/Absence The following penalties may be applied for unexcused missed practices: • Unexcused Tardiness or Missing one practice may disqualify that participant from starting in the first quarter of the following game. • A second unexcused tardy or missed practice in the same week may disqualify that participant from the following game completely. • Repeat incidents will disqualify the cheerleader from competition and may invoke the team suspension procedure.

  15. Team Suspension: Disciplinary Procedures • Serious behavior issues will result in a warning • Second serious incident will result in a 1 week suspension from the squad • Third issue will result in a parent meeting with the GSHS Principal • Final incident will result in removal from the squad

Season Costs • Uniform/Practice wear $341 Due May 14* • Camp $329 Due Jun 7 (optional) • Winter wear $190 Due Jul 15 • Stunt Clinic $50 Due Jul 30 • Ath/Bus Fee$135 Due Aug 20 • Competition $TBD Nov/Dec Total $1045.00 with camp / $716 without Does not include local competition entry fees Uniform Fees made payable to “Varsity Spirit” All other fees payable to “GSHS Cheer” *If you would like to purchase the entire uniform package at once, total is $531 and is payable on May 14th @ Uniform Fitting.
