  2. Personal History: Early Life • Born: May 12, 1948 in Falls City, Nebraska • Raised in Fairbury McCook, Benkelman, and Wahoo • graduated from US Military Academy at West Point in 1970 • Also graduate of Army’s Airborne and Ranger Schools • Married to Sally Ganem • One son Sam

Political Life - Early Career • hired as office manager of Republican Congressman Doug Bereuter’s Fremont-Area office • served as chief of staff for Republican Congressman Hal Daub until 1989 • 1990-1994-served as councilman for Fremont city council • 1994- Nebraska state treasurer-re-elected in 1998 until 2001
