The judge found the law’s “individual insurance mandate” unconstitutional and declared the entire act void. “This ruling confirms the alarming overreach made by the federal government and sends a clear message that the federal government cannot regulate commerce by forcing citizens into the marketplace to buy a product,” Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said. “The Constitution makes clear that the federal government does not have unlimited powers. 4. Juvenile Judge Vote Count Going Back To Secretary Of State - Federal Appeals Court Orders Votes With Poll Worker Errors To Be Counted; January 31, 2011; CINCINNATI Nearly three months after the election, the race for Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge is still up in the air. The Hamilton County Board of Elections split a Monday vote 2-2 on whether to appeal a federal appeals court decision to count about 150 excluded ballots in the race between Democrat Tracie Hunter and Republican John Williams. The current vote count, minus exclusions, has Williams as the winner. The ballots were excluded because they were cast at the wrong precincts, but a federal judge said they should be counted because they apparently were miscast because of poll worker errors. Yet it has paid Allen County only 0.04 percent to 0.12 percent recently."It's great we're making all this money for the state of Ohio. How about in return, giving us a better rate?" Link said. "If the state's making that much money off of our money, they can share some of the love.”Mandel was empathetic. He said he will increase returns to local governments. "I agree with you 100 percent," he said. "We should be taking less off the top and returning more to local governments.” Hancock County Treasurer J. 6. Senators Portman, Wicker Ask Republican Leaders To Extend Health Coverage Tax Credit February 7, 2011; WASHINGTON, D.C. “Ohio’s workers are second to none and when an individual loses a job, we need to do all that we can to protect them.  Whether you were laid off because of the economy or forced to retire early, the Health Coverage Tax Credit will help families and individuals afford health insurance when their backs are against the wall,” said Portman. “It is my hope that we can work with Senate leadership to extend this tax credit as soon as possible so that the nearly 4,000 individuals in Ohio relying on HCTC have access to health care during these difficult times.” Portman Votes to Repeal Democrats' Health Care Law; February 2, 2011; WASHINGTON, D.C. “It is becoming more and more clear that the budget-busting new health care law raises costs for Ohio families and hurts Ohio jobs.  Add to that the court rulings finding the law unconstitutional, and it seems clear to me that it is time to take a new approach.  Families and small businesses deserve far better than a big-government approach to health care that raises taxes and costs while putting us on an unsustainable fiscal path.  Although the Senate vote to repeal was not successful, on the heels of two judicial decisions ruling the health care law unconstitutional and a vote in the United States House of Representatives to repeal the law, I hope Democrats will work on a bipartisan basis to repeal this law and start over with a better approach to reduce costs and expand access,” said Portman.
