  1. CCSS Math 7 Mrs. Osterkamp Room 32

  2. CCSS Math 7 • Follows the 7th grade Common Core curriculum • Consists of material traditionally taught in the first 2/3rds of PreAlgebra • Prepares students for CCSS Math 8 which includes portions of Algebra 1 and is a foundational piece to success in HS Math courses

  3. Students are the ones responsible for their own learning. Classroom guidelines and procedures are intended to provide the optimal opportunities for all students to learn and demonstrate what he/she has learned. (Although parents can be effective in offering incentives to ensure this happens too)

  4. Parent Communication • Newsletters  #1 form of communication • Math Progress Reports • Q  grades are available 24/7 • Website  info available 24/7 • Email or note is the best way to reach me

  5. Class Website • Home Page • Homework • Math Help • Grades • Newsletters • Math 7 Text • Math 7 Notes • Math 7 Worksheets • Miscellaneous • http://teacher.sanjuan.edu/webpages/josterkamp/

  6. Focus on Learning “Any student can hit a target that they can see and doesn’t move.” • Purpose: To provide a focus for learning • Unit Targets • Targeted Quizzes • Use with Quizzes & HW as a Study Guide

  7. Grading CategoryPercentage Tests 60% Quizzes 20% Assignments 20% %LetterStds 85 — 100 A 3.4 — 4.0 70 — 84 B 2.8 — 3.3 50 — 69 C 2.0 — 2.7 45 — 49 D 1.8 — 1.9 < 45 F 0.0 — 1.7 • Tests and Quizzes will be scored on a 4-point standards based system.

  8. Retests • Students can Retest any section(s) of the test that they do not score Proficient. • Students will need to complete the “Test Tracking Sheet” to request a Retest. • Ex. HW complete, notes complete, quizzes corrected, extra practice, etc. • Details will be reviewed after the 1st Test.

  9. Homework • Students need to do HW regularly to be successful. • HW is posted daily on the class website – including worksheets so that students can stay caught up when they are absent. • If answers or sol’ns are posted, students are expected to check their work. Students must justify HOW to get the answers. It doesn’t do any good to practice doing it wrong.

  10. Extra Help & Remediation Students who are not at grade level will need to work outside of school to “catch-up” on their basic skills. • Math Study Hall – M & W 2:30 – 3:30 • Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org) • Basic Skills Packet (& answers)

  11. 4 Things to Take Away from Tonight • Read the Newsletters • Check Q weekly for progress/grades • Use the resources on my website • Middle School learning counts! Thank you for coming this evening!
