  2. Their homeland is in Scandinavia.

  3. Who were the vikings? • Vikings were skilled shipbuilders and sailors. They sailed in ships called longships. They lived in Scandinavia.

  4. How were they mighty warriors? • The Vikings were fierce warriors. Sometimes they would raid towns and take things by force.

  5. What was a Viking Raid like? • They stole treasures, took people as captives, and burned buildings. • Family members had to pay ransom if they wanted their family back. • A brutal fight. • Brutal, ruthless, and merciless.

  6. What was the Viking Alphabet? • Their alphabet was called runes. They had 16 letters called runes. They believed that their runes had magical powers.

  7. Traders and Raiders • What did the Vikings trade? And what did they raid? • They traded with people in far off lands, but most of their goods were stolen or raided such as silver, jewelry, and wine. • Who is coming home? • Tor and his beserker friends came home from their raids. They returned from their year long a-viking trip. • What do the father and the son do? • The father gave the son orders to help. The father is the jarl. • What cargo is mixed? • Slaves and valuables
