XI Latin American Regional Congress on Radiation Protection and Safety 23-27th April 2018, Havana, Cuba • Development of women in the nuclear sector - perspectives and experiences of professionals in the area of radiological and nuclear safety • This is the first panel of women that takes place in an IRPA Congress, an initiative that should continue at the next Congresses • It is necessary to continue to make visible and disseminate the contribution of women in the nuclear sector. • It is necessary to promote education in the population focused on gender equity to create a cultural change. • There is a need to promote education that fosters future professional development without gender barriers. • It is essential to establish actions aimed at reducing the gender gap in science and technology, particularly in radiological and nuclear safety. • A gender approach needs to be incorporated in all radiological and nuclear safety activities, at the local and regional levels.

XII Latin American Regional Congress on Radiation Protection and Safety • At the Closing Ceremony it was announced that at Federation of Radiation Protection Societies of Latin American and the Caribbean (FRALC) meeting • all the Radiation Protection Societies of the region decided that • the next Latin American Regional Congress • will be held in Santiago de Chile in 2022.
