It offers small, midsize, sports, and luxury cars; and pickup, van, utilities, and medium duty trucks. The company sells its products under the Chevrolet, Buick, Saab, GMC, Pontiac, Cadillac, HUMMER, Saturn, Opel, Vauxhall, Isuzu, Holden, Daewoo, and Suzuki names. General Motors sells its cars and trucks to dealers for consumer retail sales; and to fleet customers, including daily rental car companies, commercial fleet customers, leasing companies, and governments. It also offers after sale vehicle services, such as maintenance, light repairs, collision repairs, and vehicle accessories. In addition, the company provides a range of financial services, including consumer vehicle financing, automotive dealership and other commercial financing, residential mortgage services, automobile service contracts, personal automobile insurance coverage, and commercial insurance coverage. General Motors markets its vehicles through a network of independent retail dealers and distributors. As of December 31, 2007, the company operated 6,375 vehicle dealers in the United States, 715 in Canada, and 270 in Mexico, as well as approximately 14,242 distribution outlets internationally. Further, it engages in the development of alternative fuel vehicles. The company was founded in 1908 and is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan.
