Answer the question in ONE SENTENCE. • Make sure to TAG (title/author/genre) it if you are writing about literature! • Last sentence of the introduction I, me, we, our, you, your

  3. #1 THE THESIS Example analyzing Republican Sniper: The Republican Sniper, a character in Liam O'Flaherty's short story “Sniper”, is skilledand experienced. Now lets practice with Terry… Write a thesis (answer) to this prompt: How does Gary Paulsen characterize Terry as a DYNAMIC character in his short story “Stop the Sun”? Include TAG Terms from question Two adjectives (how he was at the start vs end)

  4. #2 Find Evidence • Evidence Notes: • typically, use evidence in order they occur • 3 lines of a quote is MAX • Use only what you need “…he started…” • Pick INDIRECT characterization (gives something to say in CM) Find 2 pieces of evidence - 1 piece – Terry at the START - 1 piece – Terry at the END (proves change)

Evaluate Evidence Do Now: Which TWO of the three quotes best supports embarrassed? 1) “…His father was squirming along the floor on his stomach” (Paulsen 3). 2) “Terry sat in the chair next to his father, looking at the floor, wanting only for the earth to open and let him drop in a deep hole” (Paulsen 3). 3) “…he would cross the street when he saw his father coming…” (Paulsen 3).
