Henry Hudson (1565-1611) was an English explorer renowned for his search for a Northeast Passage to Asia. Instead, he landed in Canada in 1609, ultimately charting parts of what is now New York and the Hudson River. Tragically, he died in 1611 in Hudson Bay. Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635), a notable French explorer, led a group of colonists to Quebec in 1608, establishing a significant foothold in North America. He served as governor and significantly advanced French exploration before passing away from a stroke in 1635.
