  2. General • Blessing was established belonging to Jonathan Edwards Pierce • Pierce was relieved for finding a place for his cattle • Then in 1903 The first postal service was opened in Blessing, TX • Soon later city's began to pass through Blessing

  3. The Name It Got • Jonathan Pierce proposed to change the name to ‘‘Thank God’’ • But the United States Postal Department decided not to. • It turned out to be named Blessing.

  4. Population • Blessing was a single town at first. Then slowly people heard about the city. • In 1909 P. Ansley established a local newspaper. • This structure pulled people to the city.

  5. Blessing Bank Before • Built during the boom of 1907 • One of the few commercial buildings remaining • Started operating before 1932 and still currently • In 1996 it was restored looking like its original appearance. After

  6. Blessing Hotel • Was built on 1906 by Victoria Architect Jules Lefland • As well as family homes for prominent developers • Such as Jonathan E. Pierce and son Abel B. Pierce

  7. Masonic Lodge • Built 1875 at Deming's bridge near pierce ranch. • Also by John Pierce and Masonic brothers • The first Floor was used as a Baptist church and community hall • Moved about 1903 when town of Blessing was founded

  8. The A. B. Pierce Home Built 1909 for Abel Pierce who with father co founded town of Blessing Pierce was a veteran of the Spanish-American war Was for gathering place for area civic leaders
