  1. Trojan War and Trojan Horse When: Late 1,100’s BC (about 1187) – It lasted about 10 years. Why: The prince of Troy stole Helen of Greece. Helen was beautiful and was considered to be a symbol of Greece. Problem: No one could win. It just kept going on and on. Result: Trojan Horse • The Greeks had a very large wooden horse built. Some of the Greeks sailed back, but some were hidden in the horse. Sinon pretended to be angry since he was left behind and was deserted. He assured the Trojans that the horse was safe and would bring good luck. • The Trojans were convinced it was a gift from the gods and goddesses. • A few were not convinced, but they were ignored. • Once it was night, the Greeks came out of the hidden door armed and ready to fight! • Troy was conquered and destroyed. • Helen was rescued and returned to Greece. Homer wrote The Iliad and The Odyssey, which were about the Trojan War.
